The struggles of an emerging writer to get published. What exactly is it that I'm emerging from? Some kind of primeval literary goo?

Mid Market Writer's View
A sobering article, confessions of a semi-successful writer from a midlist writer on the reality of a writer's life. I'd like to imagine it's different in the US compared to the UK and Ireland but I fear I am fooling myself.
That really doesn't make happy reading. I know a UK mid-list author (I don't think she's even that now, not in this country anyway) who could tell a similar tale, sadly.
Pretty horrifying alright - beginning to think crime doesn't pay - I mean writing - writing doesn't pay... I'm sure you're right though EW, I'm sure it's totally different here, there's probably a really secure career path that you follow once you publish the first book - you just keep getting promoted, providing you work hard, you just get moved on up the grades the longer you're at it, like a civil servant...

ReplyDeleteI wish I was a civil servant at the moment. At least I'd know where my next latte was coming from. And I'll have some of whatever you're having.
ReplyDeleteIt’s good (sort of) to read this. Reminds us to have high hopes, but realistic expectations.
ReplyDeleteI like your blog!
