International Put Your Poem in a Shop Month

Oh yes. Was finally in a shop, with some poems and a camera and a brain to remember to participate in International Put Your Poem In A Shop month.

Words from earlier blog post here.

Juice of Citrus

When she was a pip, I drank jugs of ice tea,
the red-brown liquid swirls and clanking cube melt.
I’d take salt and suck the fat slices of lemon,
a whole fruit sometimes of sour satisfaction.

She crooks her finger into her diet coke
and crams the hooked lemon sliver, dripping into her mouth,
looks up with her father’s sharp eyes.

verses from 13 Ways of Looking at a Diva

viii
I know iambic pentameters
and sly, slant rhymes;
But I know too
that what the Diva tells
sparks what I know.

ix
When the Diva left
it marked the end
of one of many nights.

Happy Christmas everyone

Oh this is wonderful Kate. Four poems to delight Tesco shoppers two days before Christmas. Particularly liked the placement of the pip poem in with the fizzy drinks and citrus fruits. That was the mark of genius!
The iambic pentameter one amongst the shower gel is so incongruous it might qualify for Jeanne's Theory of Iconic Realism?
Merry Christmas indeed!!

I keep forgetting too!

I love "Juice of Citrus" - nice onomatopeia and I could just taste that coke!

I came over from Peter's blog - he's an IPYPIAS junkie, I think.

Thanks Niamh, you are, as ever, an inspiration!
LilyS - thanks for stopping by. Yes, it's kind of Guerilla poetry
Peter, Tesco didn't know what hit it. Do they have CCTV? Maybe they know who hit it...
Thanks Kat. It's a scary thing to do but remembering was harder!
