Books and Chocolate

What better? Galaxy are hoisted their petard (what exactly is a petard? Some kind of flag?) to the book wagon. Long may it last. My personal preference is for a bar of Lindt Orange and Almond and I'm not just saying that because the lovely people at Lindt gave me free tickets to The Taste of Dublin last month when I gorged on chocolate and all things foodie.

But anyway, you can enter a competition for a free book. One of:

- One Shot (Lee Child)
- The Memory Keeper's Daughter (Kim Edwards)
- The Other Boleyn Girl (Philippa Gregory)

- The Broker (John Grisham)
- Anybody Out There (Marian Keyes)
- The Undomestic Goddess (Sophie Kinsella)
-
The Secret Life of a Slummy Mummy (Fiona Neill)
- Things I Want My Daughters to Know (Elizabeth Noble)
- Crystal (Katie Price)
- No Angel (Penny Vincenzi)

I've read the ones in italics.

You either enter the code on the promotional bar (UK and Ireland - hurrah!) on their website or you can even click on a link and enter with no purchase (although Galaxy don't seem to know Ireland has no postcodes)

Deadline: 31 August 2009

Oh dear, I've read none of the books offered. Is there any reason why these books were chosen? Any chocolate link?

From http://www.phrases.org.uk/meanings "The phrase 'hoist with one's own petar[d]' is often cited as 'hoist by one's own petar[d]'. The two forms mean the same, although the former is strictly a more accurate version of the original source. A petard is, or rather was, as they have long since fallen out of use, a small engine of war used to blow breaches in gates or walls. . . the significant feature was that they were full of gunpowder - basically what we would now call a bomb."

I noticed you've read some books by Sophie Kinsella and Marian Keyes. Both are amazing writers; I think I've read just about all of their books : )

If readers like these authors, they're sure to love a book called 'Knickles and Dimes'. It has hilarious characters and a fun, light-hearted story; I'd recommend it!

Thanks for the suggestions : )

I'm pleased Katie Price's 'Crystal' didn't list in italics. It would have been a brain cell massacre...
