Poets to check out - Roger McGough
First Day at School.
What do you remember? I remember thinking that I was going to teach, because that's what my parents did when they went to school. And there was a see-saw.

I actually really liked that and for someone who wrote a poem called 'Off ,off with the head of Roger McGough' that's quite surprising.I think I liked it because It didn't rhyme and wasn't read by the voice I dread.
As for first day at skool I remember huge, enormous ,giant, unscalable fortified gates closing with a calamitous clang, happiness was gone ,real life had dawned from the bowels of hell and from that day to this I've been running trying to find a way out.
I don't remember anything. In the photographs I look like a preying mantis.
These are definitely source material. One day I too will drive the poetry bus
Tantrum on wearing a skirt for the first time. Mum carrrying me through heavy snow and then my first Nun. Sister Aiden. Seared on my memory, and a life-long heroine of mine.
